DES MOINES, IOWA – The Vikings were back in action for a conference matchup against Graceland University. This was also our annual Pink Out game to honor LeAnn Stefani. Coach Stefani's family attended to give out two scholarships. The scholarships were awarded to Reese Casey and Emily Byrd.
The game was all Vikings Tuesday night. Grand View won the first set 25-13. Mariana de Carvalho swung for six kills during the set, controlling the GV attack. Brooklyn Roder found an attack early along with multiple kills from Vitoria Campos Mello before the first Graceland timeout at 12-5. The Vikings Senior, Ellie Dougherty, finished a couple of swings throughout the set as well. Juliana Neves was the facilitator for most of the kills, receiving 14 assists in the first set. Maiah Kalima-Izumi ended the match behind the line with 5 points and two service aces.
Similar success in the second set as the Vikings won 25-12. GV jumped to a 9-1 lead on two aces from Kalima and an ace from Clarissa Hasty. Roder earned a block and a kill early as well, and Jocelyn Barrett earned the first kill of the set for GV. Campos Mello continued to be everywhere on the court and made great kills and defensive plays. Campos Mello added two service aces as well. Hasty finished the set for the Vikings on six straight points and added another ace.
The last set was dominated by Grand View. After a struggled start, down 1-4, the Vikings didn't drop much after that. Campos Mello delivered two early kills and combined with Lindsey Hrbek for a block that gave the Vikings momentum. Hrbek later into the set, earned 3 aces in four points and Mya Clapp added a kill during the run. Clapp added two more at the end of the set, and Barrett joined in on the fun. Anna Takushi finished the set serving six straight points for Grand View, and a 25-8 win. A sweep for the Vikings and 21-1 on the season.
