Grand View Vikings Take Commanding 83-52 Win Over Viterbo

DES MOINES, IOWA – The Grand View Vikings took to the court on Tuesday, October 28th, facing off against the Viterbo V-Hawks. From the opening tip, the Vikings set the pace with aggressive defense and balanced scoring, building a commanding lead early. Grand View led throughout the game and secured an 83–52 victory.
 
The Grand View Vikings set the tone early in the first quarter. Eva Solseth opened the scoring with a layup inside, then added another fastbreak finish and a free throw to spark the Vikings' early momentum to a 7-4 lead. Grand View's defense fueled their offense, as Solseth, Ellie Knock, and Anna Gossling each came up with key steals that turned into points on the other end. The Vikings continued to attack in the paint as the quarter progressed, with Gossling, Amaya Davison, and Kori Alcorn adding baskets extending their lead further. After a Gossling jumper, Claire Galbraith added a bucket in traffic, and Taryn Ottemann buried a three-pointer in the final seconds, closing the half with a 25-16 lead.
 
Anna Gossling picked up right where the Vikings left off, scoring a fastbreak layup and knocking down a three-pointer to push the Vikings to a 14-point lead with 8:11 remaining in the half. The defense set the tone early in the quarter with Eva Peterson and Kori Alcorn steals that fueled transition opportunities. Ellie Knock added to the momentum with a strong finish inside, followed by Taryn Ottemann, who delivered a spark off the bench with a layup and a three to make it a 21-point advantage. Grand View's defense continued to smother Viterbo, limiting second-chance baskets and forcing 6 turnovers in the quarter. By halftime, the Vikings had built an impressive 50–26 lead.
 
Grand View opened up the third quarter with a layup and a pair of free throws by Amaya Davison. Anna Gossling and Ellie Knock added key buckets to keep the Viking lead at 24. Abigail Jones made an impact off the bench with a three-pointer, and Claire Galbraith capped the quarter with a deep three to push the Vikings ahead by 32 points, heading to the fourth with a 71-39 lead.
 
Lily Smith and Hannah Hartley came off the bench, keeping the momentum going with back-to-back buckets to start the fourth. Colette Loges added another layup with an assist from Eva Peterson, while Maddy Maynes chipped in with points to extend the lead to 36. After a 5-0 run by the V-Hawks, Grand View finished on top, securing an 83–52 win.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Anna Gossling led the Vikings in scoring with 18 points on 7-12 shooting. Gossling also added on 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and a steal.
  • Taryn Ottemann recorded 7 rebounds and 8 points on 3-4 shooting.
  • The Vikings out-scored the V-Hawks 42-22 in the paint
  • Grand View recorded 31 points off the bench
  • Grand View shot 48.5% for the game, and 67% in the second quarter.
