CANTON, MISSOURI - The 3rd-ranked Grand View football team traveled to Canton, Missouri, on Saturday afternoon to kick off Heart of America action. The Vikings put together a solid offensive performance, leading to a 45-13 victory over the Wildcats, advancing their overall record to 4-0 and their Heart of America conference record to 1-0.
The Vikings' offense set the tone early, putting together a methodical 66-yard drive on their opening possession. Running back
Dalten Van Pelt capped it with a 9-yard touchdown run, giving Grand View an early 7-0 lead. Quarterback
Jackson Waring was efficient under center, showcasing his dual-threat ability throughout the half. He connected with
Aisea Toki on a 15-yard completion to convert a critical 4th down, keeping the momentum on Grand View's side.
The Viking defense was equally impressive, consistently stifling the Wildcats' offensive efforts.
Jackson Filer and the rest of the defensive front caused havoc, limiting Culver-Stockton to negative yardage on multiple drives and forcing the Wildcats into several long-yardage situations. Defensive linemen
Casey Trudo and
Carson Hagan each recorded sacks, while
John Argo and
Skylar James provided solid secondary support.
On the offensive side, Waring's precision continued as he connected on a 65-yard touchdown pass to Toki early in the second quarter, widening the gap to 21-0. The Vikings added another score, this time on a 1-yard rush by Van Pelt after Waring connected with
Louis Brooks on a 34-yard pass that set them up on the Culver-Stockton 1-yard line.
Cory Wood rounded out the half with a 35-yard field goal to give Grand View a commanding 31-0 lead heading into the locker room.
