Vikings’ Defense Forces -20 Rushing Yards, Crush Clarke 89-0 in Homecoming Rout

ThDES MOINES, IOWA — In front of a packed Duke Williams Stadium during the 2024 Homecoming Weekend, the No. 2-ranked Grand View Vikings showcased their dominance in an 89-0 rout over the Pride. The Vikings' defense was impenetrable, forcing five turnovers and delivering a shutout performance. The offense matched the defensive intensity, executing flawlessly and lighting up the scoreboard throughout the contest.

The No. 2-ranked Grand View Vikings wasted no time asserting their dominance in the first half of the 2024 Homecoming matchup, storming to a commanding 48-0 lead over the Pride.

The Vikings opened the scoring early in the first quarter with a 4-play, 37-yard drive, capped by an 11-yard touchdown run from quarterback Jackson Waring. A 38-yard field goal by Cory Wood extended the lead to 10-0 after an 11-play drive that chewed nearly six minutes off the clock.

The second quarter belonged to Grand View's defense. Daviere Jones sparked the momentum with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown on the opening play, pushing the Vikings ahead 17-0. Moments later, Jonah Miyazawa punched in a 9-yard touchdown run following a Pride turnover, and the Vikings' relentless pressure forced another mistake, resulting in a scoop and score for Skylar James off a fumble forced by Jackson Filer's pressure, to make it 31-0.

Waring remained efficient through the air, connecting with Corey Phillips for a 15-yard touchdown and Peyton Goode on a 14-yard strike, while Wood added a 30-yard field goal to close out a dominant first half.

With the defense suffocating the Pride's offense and the Viking's offense capitalizing on every opportunity, Grand View took a comfortable 48-0 advantage into the locker room, putting on a show for the Homecoming crowd.

Grand View wasted no time extending their 48-0 halftime lead. Running back Tim Nimely punched in a 32-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to cap off a 5-play, 49-yard drive. Backup quarterback Peyton Rottinghaus followed with a 54-yard touchdown strike to Triston William, showcasing the Vikings' depth as they increased the lead to 62-0. Rottinghaus wasn't done, as he also scampered for a 20-yard touchdown on the following drive, stretching the score to 68-0.

Special teams made their presence felt late in the third quarter when freshman John Braun returned a blocked punt for a 20-yard touchdown, adding to the Vikings' dominant performance. The lead ballooned to 75-0 as the third quarter came to a close.

In the fourth quarter, Grand View continued to control the game on the ground. Running back Titus Christian scored twice, first on a 3-yard run and then a 15-yard dash with just under two minutes remaining. The Vikings' clock-chewing offense maintained control as the defense continued to shut down Clarke's attempts to move the ball.

Grand View's defense was relentless, holding Clarke to minimal gains and forcing them into multiple punts. The Vikings' offense, meanwhile, churned out 49 second-half points to complete the blowout.
With this dominant performance, Grand View wrapped Homecoming Weekend in style, improving to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Heart.
