Grand View Shuts Out Missouri Valley, Stays Unbeaten in the Series

DES MOINES, IOWA — No. 3 Grand View hosted Missouri Valley today and earned a solid 24-0 victory, improving to 3-0 on the season. The Vikings' defense was strong throughout, securing a shutout. Grand View continues to build momentum after a big weekend in Atchinson, remaining undefeated after another strong performance against MoVal.

Grand View dominated the ground attack against Missouri Valley, posting 145 rushing yards to their opponent's 52 and outgaining them 377-100 in total offense. The Vikings struck first with a field goal but took time to find their rhythm on offense during the first quarter.

After a few stalled drives, GVU broke through late in the second quarter. The Vikings capped a 40-yard drive over five plays with a touchdown from Dalton Van Pelt, extending their lead to 10-0 as they headed into halftime against Missouri Valley.

Grand View continued to control the game in the third quarter, relying on strong defensive play and timely offensive execution to maintain their lead over Missouri Valley.

The quarter opened with a solid defensive stand after a kickoff touchback, as Jackson Filer recorded a key sack to force a punt. Grand View's offense responded with a short, three-play drive, but Missouri Valley failed to capitalize on the field position, missing a 41-yard field goal attempt after a drive that gained 18 yards.

On the ensuing possession, Grand View found some offensive rhythm. A key 31-yard completion from Jackson Waring to Louis Brooks set up the Vikings deep in Missouri Valley territory. Dalten Van Pelt then broke free for a 17-yard run, moving Grand View to the Missouri 29-yard line. However, the drive stalled after a holding penalty, and Grand View's 41-yard field goal attempt sailed wide, leaving the score unchanged.

The defense continued to step up, holding Missouri Valley to just 15 yards on their next drive, forcing another punt. Grand View got the ball back with less than a minute left in the quarter, and Waring quickly connected with Zane Johnson for a 21-yard gain to midfield as the clock ticked down.

As the third quarter came to a close, Grand View maintained control, keeping Missouri Valley off the scoreboard and protecting their lead heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Grand View extended their lead with two more scoring drives, sealing a 24-0 victory over Missouri Valley. Dalten Van Pelt and Tim Nimely combined for a steady rushing attack, with Nimely capping an 8-play, 71-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run early in the quarter. Later, Jackson Waring connected with Louis Brooks for a 31-yard touchdown pass, pushing the lead to 24-0.

The Vikings' defense continued to dominate, forcing multiple punts and limiting Missouri Valley to just 4 yards on their first drive of the quarter.

POST-GAME WITH COACH PETERSON
"I'm proud of how this group responded in their preparation this week after we challenged them to compete for four quarters. It was great seeing our team compete for 60 minutes today."
