Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Grand View Starts play in Des Moines with Straight Sets over Peru

DES MOINES, IOWA – The Grand View women's volleyball team made a strong start in the Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center on September 17th, taking on Peru State College in their second Heart of America Conference match. The Vikings showcased their dominance from the outset, securing their second sweep of the season with set scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-13 against the Bobcats.

In the opening set, the action was intense as both teams fought for control. Grand View took an early lead, but Peru State kept the set competitive, with eight ties throughout. The Vikings ultimately prevailed 25-19, thanks to a pivotal kill from Ellie Dougherty and a series of errors from the Bobcats.

The Vikings would prove dominant in the second set. They jumped out to an early lead and maintained it throughout, leaving no room for the Bobcats to catch up. Middle Sydney Beasley would be the dominating factor as she put down four kills for the Vikings, supplementing their significant lead. GVU would put down three straight kills, contributing Brooklyn Roder twice and Elly Polich, resulting in a 2-0 lead for the Vikings.

The final set began with Grand View again establishing an early advantage. Though Peru State managed to tie the score at 4-4, Dougherty's pair of kills helped the Vikings regain momentum. Polich, who excelled from the service line, added two aces, pushing Grand View closer to a sweep. Reese Casey put the finishing touch on the match with a decisive kill on match point, sealing the 3-0 victory for the Vikings.
