CEDAR RAPIDS, IA- The Vikings squared off against the top seed in the tournament in the CMU Eagles. After yesterday's rain delays the tournament was back on track with several games taking place. In the night cap the Vikings would keep the game close and challenge the Eagles late but it wouldn't be enough as they fell 5-2.
The Vikings kept the game close in the early going as they tied it up in the top of the 4
th after
Rachel Anderson doubled into center field scoring
Kylie Merical. The Eagles would respond though as they plated 4 runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Vikings wouldn't go down quietly though as in the top of the 7
th they chipped away as they loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a single past the shortstop by
Chloe Kottlowski.
Olivia Kyes would then step up to the plate and get a hard-hit ball to find the gap in center field scoring another Viking run. They wouldn't be able to get much momentum from the short rally as they would fall 5-2 in 7 innings.
GAME NOTES:
- GV registered 6 hits through the game.
- Merical and Anderson both hit doubles
- GV left 6 runners on base.
- GV moves to 13-14 all time vs. CMU.
