Vikings Fall in the Opening Round

Ozark, MO - The Vikings opened up the Heart of America Conference Tournament against a familiar opponent they have played four times this season. The Vikings enter the tournament as the sixth seed facing off against the Mount Mercy Mustangs. The season series is tied at two and will be decided today in the opening round. 

Jason Moist would toe the rubber in the opening round getting his 11th start of the season with 59 innings pitched and a 7-3 record. The Vikings would find themselves behind at the start of the game giving up four in the bottom of the first. The Viking bats started to string some things together with Brock Johnson reaching on a fielder's choice to bring in Hank Himrich, Carsen Wadel would also single to center bringing home Canny to cut the Mustang lead to two. The Mustangs would respond with four more in the sixth and seventh innings before the Vikings cut the lead to four in the top of the seventh, Erik Broekemeier and Brook Heinen would have a pair of home runs bringing the score to 8-5 with six outs remaining. Entering the eighth the Vikings would take the lead off of a Nolan Drill double scoring Stalder and Wadel making the score 9-8. The Mustangs would score on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to conclude the opening contest for the Vikings. Grand View piled up 15 hits, 9 runs, and one error in the contest.

- Carsen Wadel and Hank Himrich both collected 3 hits
- Drill, Broekemeier, and Johnson would each have 2 RBI's

What's Next - The Vikings will square off against either MidAmerica Nazarene or William Penn University, a game scheduled for 1:30 PM. Grand View is looking to keep their postseason alive with a win tonight.
