Oskaloosa, IA - The Vikings hit the road for their last conference series matchup against the Statesmen of William Penn University. It's a series the Grand View split last year with
Drew Conn and John Horn picking up the wins in those games the last time we were matched up. The Vikings enter the series with a 23-18 overall record and a 14-14 conference record putting them at 5th in the Heart. Grand View looking to reach the Heart of America Confrence Tournamnet for the thrid consecutive year in a row.
Game 1 - Grand View would start the game with runners in scoring position the first two innings but could not get any across. As the statesmen plated 3 putting the Vikings behind.
Brook Heinen would cut into the lead with a two-run home run trying to be the spark for the offense.
Hank Himrich would have a sacrifice fly in the fifth to cut the lead within two runs. The Vikings were able to score one run in the top of the 7th from a
Nolan Drill double-scoring Heinen. The Vikings accumulated nine hits in the game, Carsen Wadel,
Nolan Drill, and
Brook Heinen collected multiple hits in the series opener but fell short 6-4.
Game 2 - Game two was a slow start until the fourth inning where the Vikings would take the lead on a
Nolan Drill homerun and a
Brock Johnson double taking the 3-2 lead.
Drew Conn would get the start going five and two-thirds striking out seven and giving up five runs. A late home run by the statesmen would be the story of game 2 for the Vikings. Johnson would go three for four in the second game with 2 RBI.

Bryce Stalder to put the Vikings on the board giving pitcher
Ryan Roby a lead to start the game. In the top of the fourth Grand View would break the tie with a Rinehart single to score two, followed by a Broekemeier single to extend the lead to 5-2. The Vikings would put up a crooked number in the top of the seventh inning scoring four runs on four hits to give the Viking staff some run support headed into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Josh Stoll earned the win giving up one hit in relief in four innings striking out one and walking two.
Jacob Wolver would retire three giving up one hit in his inning of work. Carsen Wadel,
Erik Broekemeier,
Connor Canny, and
Dane Schwirtz would all pick up multiple hits in the game.
Game 4 - After a long first inning the Vikings were able to flip the game on its head putting up a 10 spot in the second inning, on ten hits to take a 10-6 lead. The Vikings would add to their lead in the top of the fourth with a pair of home runs from
Erik Broekemeier (11) and
Nolan Drill (9). The statesmen would battle back in the bottom of the fourth taking a 15-12 lead. The Vikings would trail for the remainder of the game dropping game two in an offensive battle. The Vikings totaled 15 hits in the game, Drill and Heinen would each collect three hits a piece. Rinehart and Broekemeier would also pick up a pair of hits at the plate as well to conclude the regular season.
What's Next - Grand View awaits their opponent in the Conference tournament after placing 7th in the regular season. The Vikings completed a 45-game season scoring 347 runs, a team batting average of .329, an OBP of .416, and a slugging percentage of .574, with 76 home runs on the season. An offensive-heavy team looks to keep rolling as they head into the postseason.
