Peru, NE—The Vikings traveled to Peru, Nebraska, for their sixth conference series of the year. Coming off a series win against Graceland, Grand View is looking to use some momentum to start a late-season push. Grand View currently leads the all-time series with Peru State College 22-13 with a 7-5 record on the road. The Vikings look to improve these numbers this weekend as they take on the Bobcats of Peru State.
Game 1 —The Vikings would plate two in the first inning, credited to a
Brock Rinehart double and a
Brook Heinen single that would put the Vikings up 2-0 after 1. The game would then be a back-in-fourth battle, as
Brock Johnson homered in the top of the second to tie the game back at two. Johnson would go on to homer two more times in the first game of the series, collecting 8 RBIS, where the Vikings would fall short 13-12. The Vikings totaled 16 hits with 12 runs and eight extra-base hits in the loss.
Game 2 — Game 2 was started with a three-run shot to left from
Erik Broekemeier to put the Vikings up three early. On to the 5th inning, where the runs would start to be scored, Grand View would bring home four runs on three hits,
Bryce Stalder doubled (RBI), Canny HR (2 RBI), Johnson HR (1 RBI). Broekemeier would get his second home run of the day at the top of the 6th to bring in two more runs and add to the Viking lead.
Ryan Roby would be credited with the win in game 2, allowing three hits, five runs, and punching out 8.
Jacob Wolver,
Cade Armstrong, and
Drew Scherbenske would appear out of the bullpen for the Vikings.
Game 3 — The Vikings found themselves down early in the game, fighting from behind to get some critical hits. Grand View had eight hits, and Wadel and Rinehart had two on the day, including an RBI a piece. The Viking defense committed five errors, which was the story of game 3. They allowed four unearned runs to score, putting themselves in a hole they could not dig out of.
Game 4 —
Logan Smith got the ball to even the series up. He used most of his time on the mound, going six innings and punching out four while only allowing one hit. The Viking bats were back in action, tallying nine in game two of the DH.
Brock Rinehart would be the spark in the Viking offense, going 3-4 with two RBIs;
Brock Johnson would also go 2-4 to help the Vikings defeat the Bobcats.
