Vikings Take Two Wins On Senior Day

DES MOINES, IA: The Vikings celebrated senior day with a pair of wins over the Statesmen of William Penn. A balanced attack on offense and smothering defense allowed the Vikings to pick up a 2-1 win before celebrating the seniors in-between games. The Vikings rode that momentum to help pick up a 4-2 win in game two.

GAME 1: The First game of the afternoon saw a low scoring affair as Jessica Walljasper picked up her 14thwin of the season after throwing a complete game and dishing out ten strikeouts. Rachel Anderson would get the Vikings on the board first with a deep home run to center field in the bottom of the 3rd. Kylie Merical would bat in the Vikings other run of the contest one inning later as she singled scoring Allyx Lee. William Penn would make a push in the last frame of the game but Vikings would close it out only allowing one run.

GAME 2: The Vikings survived an early jam in the second game as they were able to escape a bases loaded situation without allowing any runs in the top of the first inning. Chloe Kottlowski would drive in the Vikings first run of the game before being aggressive on the base path and moved from 1st to 3rd on a combination of a stolen base and error on the catchers throw. This set up Olivia Kyes to drive her in one batter later on her own single. William Penn would respond with a home run in the 3rd to keep the game close before Merical came up to bat in the bottom of the 4th. She found a gap in left center field and sprinted her way into 3rd base for a triple while the fielders struggled to get the ball in scoring two runs in the process. Madi Huisman picked up her 13thwin of the season with some help by Lani Gannon as the pair combined for 5 strikeouts and 2 runs over 7 innings.
