BALDWIN CITY, KANSAS — The Grand View University competitive dance team traveled to Kansas to participate in the Annual Heart of America Conference Championships inside the Collins Center. For the first time since 2021, the Vikings have won the Heart of America Championship.
After the preliminary round, the Vikings sat at 82.37 points, placing them in first, and by the final round, the Vikings claimed their first title since 2021 by a score of 85.49. The top five were Benedictine College, which was second with 82.55 points; Baker, which was 82.03; Graceland, which was 79.93; and Mount Mercy, which finished 5
th with 76.68 points.
Grand View has won three Heart Competitive Dance Championships in 2019, 2021, and 2024.
At the conclusion of the competition, Vikings 2
nd-year head coach
Kelsey Nichols was awarded the 2024 Heart of America Athletic Conference Competitive Dance Coach of the Year.
The Heart was also awarded the Heart Competitive Dancer of the Year award. Dancers from across the conference submitted an All-Conference tryout video, which the official 2024 Heart Competitive Dance Conference Championship judges judged.
The dancer with the highest score from the tryout earned Heart Dancer of the Year. The scores also determined the 2024 Heart Competitive Dance First, Second, and Honorable Mention Team All-Conference award winners.
