Grand View Wins Its 23rd Straight Over The Bobcats

PERU, NE- The Vikings pick up a pair of big wins to get back on track in Heart of America Conference play. The Vikings Squared off against the Bobcats of Peru State on Good Friday where the Vikings took game one with a large margin, 11-2, before completing the sweep with a 6-0 win. 

GAME 1: Jessica Walljasper picked up her 9th win of the season with a 6-inning outing with 13 strikeouts. The Vikings got active on the basepaths as they picked up 7 stolen bases in game one led by Olivia Harmon with 3.  Nevaeh Randall led the Vikings with a three-run homerun in the top of the 1st. She wasn't the only Viking hitting the ball well as 8 different Vikings collecting hits over the game. Mia Noelker, Rachel Anderson, and Olivia Kyes all collected doubles in the first game of the day as well. 

GAME 2: Madi Huisman took the mound for game two as she picked up her 10th win of the season going all 7 innings and only giving up 4 hits. Walljasper would bring in the go ahead run in the top of the first inning with a triple to right field. Gracie Hagle would also play a big role in the second games scoring as she had a 2 run double to center field to cap off a 3-run 6th inning. 

GAME NOTES 
  • GV only struck out 6 times over two games while striking out the Bobcats 19 times 
  • GV's defense held strong with runners on base as they forced the Bobcats to leave 14 runners on base
  • GV moves to 25-1 all time against Peru State with a 23 game win streak
  • The Vikings are 14-4 on the road this season 
WHAT'S NEXT? 
Grand view is back in action Saturday afternoon in Des Moines with another conference double header. Clarke University travels to town for a pair of games starting at 1PM & 3PM.
