DES MOINES, IOWA – The Vikings capped off their week with a ranked match. The Grand View Vikings welcomed the Missouri Valley Vikings for a top-of-the-heart afternoon game. After a hot start by GVU, Missouri Valley would take the following three sets to pull off the upset. Set scores were 25-20, 25-17, 25-23, and 25-23.
Grand View looked impressive offensively in the opening set, yet they were still playing without one of its top outsides, Bayron Valdez Pena. GVU hit at .542% in the opening frame and put down one more kill than MVC. Leading the way offensively on the day were two Vikings who finished with 17 kills.
Daniel Galili and
Leonardo Annichini would finish the week with another double-digit day.
The Vikings kept things close throughout the following sets and rallied back in sets three and four to nearly force a fifth but came up short. Missouri Valley finished with 14 blocks, helping their upset. GVU would fall in four sets to finish the week 2-1 before hitting the road.
