Grand View Softball Picks Up a Pair of Wins In Kansas

LINDSBORG, KS- Grand View traveled south for another double header Sunday afternoon where they squared off against Bethany College. The Vikings were able to move to 6-1 on the season after a pair of impressive win with scores of 8-2 and 7-4. Both games saw the Vikings take control of the matchup early and slowly build up their leads to unreachable margins as the defense wrapped up the games.

GAME 1:
The first game got off to a slow start until Mackenzie Meister was able to find a gap in the defense in left field as her single scored the first run of the game in the 4th inning. The 5th inning saw three more Viking runs as Chloe Kottlowsk's single helped drive in two runs as she advanced to second to help put herself in scoring position. Kylie Merical was able to capitalize on that as she scored Kottlowsk off of a bunt. Bethany wouldn't go away as they added on two runs of their own in the bottom of the 5th inning to cut the lead to 2 runs, 4-2. Kottlowsk would come up big again as she singled to center field bringing in another run before Allyx Lee single to shortstop would help score another 2 Vikings. Merical would score one last run for the Vikings in the 6th inning as she singled to center field. Jessica Walljasper would pick up another win this season as she throw 7 innings and struck out 8 batters while only allowing 2 runs in a 8-2 win.

GAME 2:
The Vikings bats were firing early as they looked to carry over momentum from one Saturday as Olivia Keyes was able to reach off an error bringing in Lee for the score. Lee would again bring in a pair of runs for the Vikings in the top of the 2nd inning as she singled to centerfield before Rachel Anderson stepped to the plate and brought in two more runs. The 4-0 lead would stand until Lee found a hole in center field and was able to sprint around the bases to secure a triple. Keyes would bring Lee into score with a sac fly before Walljasper would end the inning with a moonshot over the left field wall. Bethany would wouldn't go away yet as they tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th and 6th innings but it wouldn't be enough as the Vikings picked up their second win of the day 7-4. Madi Huisman picked up the win as she dealt out 3 strikeouts over 5 innings.
