Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Grand View Bests Baker, 76-64

BALDWIN CITY, KS – Grand View Women's Basketball traveled to Baldwin City, Kansas, on Saturday afternoon to face Baker University. Thanks to their fast-paced offense, ability to score in the paint, and balanced scoring, the Vikings defeated the Wildcats 76-64.

The game was tight across the board, resulting in a 20-20 tie at the end of the first period. Point guard Ellie Rengstorf ignited the scoring for the Vikings with a self-created three-pointer, then assisted on her own steal, finding Eva Solseth for a fast-break layup. Cleao Murray added three layups, while Anna Gossling contributed with another. The Wildcats found success from the field, keeping the score even, but Ella Larsen responded with a three-pointer in transition. A final jumper from Murray capped the quarter as Grand View aimed to pull ahead before the half.

Claire Galbraith sparked the offense off the bench in the second quarter, draining a three-pointer before adding a layup on the next possession. Reagan Mudderman hit a jumper and Rengstorf followed with another three-pointer. The Vikings' "Big Three" finished out the half strong: Gossling added two layups and a jump shot, Murray hit a jumper and a layup, and Larsen knocked down a three-pointer and a layup. Their balanced offense, combined with solid defense, helped Grand View extend its lead to 11 at halftime. Murray led the way with 12 points, followed by Gossling with 10, with seven Vikings scoring in the half.

A message delivered at halftime seemed to spark the Vikings' defense, as they held the Wildcats to just eight points in the third quarter. Murray stayed alert, opening the second half with a layup, followed by another from Solseth. Despite a nearly four-minute scoring drought, Grand View held its ground. A key play came when Mudderman drained a three-pointer, assisted by Solseth, and then blocked a shot that led to her own jumper. Gossling knocked down a jumper and layup, while Murray added another layup, pushing the lead to 18 by the end of the period.

Another three-pointer from Mudderman, assisted by Larsen, kicked off Grand View's fourth-quarter scoring. Layups from Gossling, Larsen, and Rengstorf helped extend the lead to 23, although Baker managed to cut it down to 12 by the end of the game. A fast-break layup from Murray and a jumper from Rengstorf finished off the live-action scoring. Grand View secured the win, 76-64. The Vikings dominated in key areas, including fast-break points (18-6) and points in the paint (42-32), with five players reaching double figures in scoring.
