Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Vikings Defeat No. 19 Northwestern Behind Gossling's 32 Point Performance

ORANGE CITY, IA – Grand View Women's Basketball continued their play at the Pizza Ranch Classic Saturday afternoon with a 97-86 victory over No. 19 Northwestern College. The Vikings controlled the game from start to finish, fueled by a standout performance from Anna Gossling and a strong team-wide shooting performance.

The game began with both teams exchanging baskets early. Ellie Rengstorf put Grand View on the board first with a quick back-cut layup. Northwestern answered with a three-pointer, but it didn't take long for Ella Larsen to respond with two of her own. The first quarter featured a fast-paced, back-and-forth tempo, with Northwestern staying within striking distance. However, the Vikings remained aggressive, with key contributions from Gossling and a timely block and steal from Larsen. Larsen's steal set up a three-pointer from Claire Galbraith, pushing Grand View towards their 28-25 lead at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, the Vikings extended their advantage by spreading the scoring across the board. Brianna Fields made her presence felt early, intercepting a lob pass and finding the gap in the defense for an easy transition layup from Anna Gossling. Gossling continued to shine, scoring both a three-pointer and an and-one layup to finish the half with 17 points. Reagan Mudderman capped off the quarter with a coast-to-coast buzzer-beater, sending the Vikings into halftime with a 55-47 lead.

Out of the break, Grand View came out focused and aggressive. Eva Solseth started the second half with a three-pointer, followed shortly after by one from Larsen. Despite Northwestern's efforts to close the gap, the Vikings answered every challenge. Rengstorf took a charge on defense, while Solseth added five points and three rebounds. Larsen turned up the offensive pressure, contributing seven points and two assists. With a well-rounded team effort, Grand View expanded their lead to 78-63 by the end of the third.

In the final period, the Vikings refused to let up. Northwestern mounted a final push, but Grand View's early dominance proved too much to overcome. Gossling continued to lead the offense, hitting a crucial three-pointer and finishing strong at the rim. With a minute remaining, Larsen hit her final three-pointer of the game to push the lead to 13. The Vikings also went a near perfect 9-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, sealing the victory at 97-86.
