OSKALOOSA, IA – Grand View Women's Volleyball wrapped up their regular season with a five-set victory over the Statesmen of William Penn on Tuesday. Despite dropping the third and fourth sets, the Vikings rallied back to claim their fifth five-set win of the season. Set scores were 25-21, 25-18, 17-25, 21-25, and 15-10.
The opening set saw both teams exchanging runs, with
Sydney Beasley and
Ellie Dougherty stepping up offensively for the Vikings. Each recorded four kills in critical moments. Behind the service line,
Jenna Bentz and
Peyton Cook contributed two and one ace, respectively. At 20-20 in the final stretch, Grand View capitalized on William Penn errors and the offensive efforts of Dougherty and
Kaylee Stalder to take the set, 25-21.
The Vikings maintained their momentum into the second set, with Dougherty once again leading the offense with four kills. Early back-to-back blocks by Beasley, assisted by Bentz and Stalder, helped set the tone.
Chevy Wagner-Chun and
Clarissa Hasty both tallied two service aces, combining for four of the team's five aces in the set. Grand View finished strong, taking the set, 25-18.
In the third set, the Vikings struggled to find their rhythm. Despite benefiting from some William Penn errors, Grand View couldn't get the offense going.
Ellie Dougherty continued to contribute with three kills, but the Vikings ultimately dropped the set, 17-25.
The fourth set began with both teams exchanging points early, but Grand View managed to pull ahead with a four-point lead.
Brooklyn Roder played a key role, contributing four kills and helping on three of the team's four blocks. However, despite their efforts, Grand View's own errors and William Penn's stronger hitting percentage cost them the set, 21-25.
In the deciding fifth set,
Chevy Wagner-Chun opened with a service ace that sparked momentum for the Vikings.
Ellie Dougherty added three consecutive kills midway through the set, while another late ace from
Chevy Wagner-Chun brought Grand View closer to victory. The Vikings capitalized on William Penn errors and held the lead throughout, finishing the match with a 15-10 win in the fifth set.
