Vikings Close Out Season with Loss to Pioneers in Heart of America Conference Tournament

DES MOINES, IA – Grand View Women's Volleyball hosted MidAmerica Nazarene University in the opening round of the Heart of America Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Despite winning the first set, the Vikings ultimately fell to the Pioneers 3-1, with set scores of 26-24, 25-21, 25-14, and 25-15, ending their season.

The match began with high energy, and the Vikings found themselves trailing early in the opening set. Sydney Beasley helped spark a momentum shift with a key block followed by a powerful kill up the middle. A series of Pioneer errors allowed Grand View to close the gap, and they pulled within one at 14-13. Back-to-back kills from Ellie Dougherty, along with a timely kill from Jayah Kent, kept the Vikings within striking distance. Grand View finally grabbed their first lead at 23-22, and with critical kills from Beasley and Kaylee Stalder, the Vikings held off MidAmerica for a 26-24 win.

The second set started closely, but the Pioneers eventually gained control. Beasley and Brooklyn Roder each had strong offensive performances, with five and four kills, respectively. Ellie Dougherty delivered a crowd-energizing solo block to keep the Vikings within range, but despite a late rally, MidAmerica took the set 25-21.

In the third set, Grand View matched the Pioneers' offensive intensity early on, with Beasley contributing four kills. However, MidAmerica's offense surged midway through the set, and the Vikings couldn't recover, falling 25-14.

The fourth and final set followed a similar pattern. Dougherty registered two quick kills early in the set to try to ignite a rally, but the Pioneers maintained their lead. Dougherty finished with four kills in the set, but MidAmerica's late run sealed the match with a 25-15 victory.
