Vikings Come Up Short on the Road

BALDWIN CITY, KS- The Vikings traveled to Baker University over the weekend to square off against a South Division opponent in the Wildcats. Noah Hart and Kino Thompson led the Vikings as the only players in double figures with 14 and 17 points respectfully. The Vikings kept the matchup close in the first half but were unable to keep up with the Wildcat offense down the stretch as Baker was able to pull away late to secure the 81-68 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Hart got the Vikings rolling as he hit a 3 pointer just 13 seconds into the game assisted by Jacob Koontz. The teams would trade baskets over the next few minutes until the Vikings extended their lead to 6 points off a Thompson layup with a feed from Markell Hood. The Wildcats would tie the game up shortly before Hart would connect on another 3 pointer to take the lead back. The Wildcats would eventually take the lead back but would not hold it for long as Connor Robertson would hit a three with a minute and 39 seconds left to play. The Wildcats would respond with a quick two for one game plan where they connected on both shots to take a one point lead, 33-32 headed into half time.

Grand View would get off to a slow start to begin the second half as Baker jumped out to a 14 point lead in the first 4 minutes of play before Koontz connected on a pair of free throws. The Vikings would hang tough throughout the second half but were never able to cut the lead below 9 points. Hart, Roberston, Thompson, and Corey Phillips all hit a three pointer in the second half  to help boost their 3 point percentage to 50% in the second half. But it was not enough offensive support as the Vikings struggled to get over the hump and fell to the Wildcats with a final score of 81-68.
