Vikings Complete Regular Season Sweep over the Jackets

DES MOINES, IOWA – No. 18 Grand View took to the court to compete against the Jackets to complete a season sweep over Graceland. The Vikings paced tempo the entire contest, resulting in a 92-62 victory over the Jackets. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
The 18th-ranked Vikings jumped out to an 18-0 lead over the Yellowjackets; leading the run was Ella Larsen, who chipped in seven points, highlighted by an and-one at the rim. Graceland wouldn't see their first points of the contest until nearly six minutes. Grand View's largest lead of the competition was sealed with an elbow jumper from Rachel Leerar, as they led 24-11 to close out the first quarter. 

The Yellowjackets began to find rhythm as they cut into the Viking's lead halfway through the second quarter. GU would start to hit stride in transition and only trail by nine by the 4-minute mark. The Vikings would collect a series of stops that eventually put their lead back into double digits. Lauren Conrey hit a big three for the Vikings under the minute mark that rose the Vikings' lead back up to 15 as they entered halftime. 

The 18th-ranked Vikings fell back to their strength at the start of the 3rd quarter. Rattling off three straight possessions with three-pointers from Larsen and two from Gossling. Ellie Rengstorf would break out for another transition bucket for the Vikings, pushing the score to 52-25. GVU's lead touched 30 points at the midpoint of the third quarter. The Jackets would connect on two free throws to cut the Vikings lead to 66-41. 

Grand View closed out the fourth quarter with all control, eventually hitting the 30-plus point lead, collecting their eleventh win in the conference and 15th win overall. 

GAME NOTES: 
  • The Vikings did not trail the contest for the third game in a row. 
  • Murray finished with 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. 
  • Grand View dished out 21 assists. 
 WHAT'S NEXT?
Grand View will close out play this week with a trip on the road to Baldwin City, KS. The Vikings and Wildcats will tip off for their final meeting of the regular season at 2:00 p.m.
