Vikings Control Match in Victory Over No. 9 Columbia

DES MOINES, IA – The (RV) Grand View men's soccer team hit the pitch for a 90-minute battle against the No. 9 ranked Cougars of Columbia College. Columbia struck early, but the Vikings would control pace after notching 3 goals and grabbing the win 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first goal of the match would be by the Cougars of Columbia in the ninth minute. The Vikings would get a look at the goal in the 13th minute by Marco Baioni but the Cougars would get the block, followed by two more shots from Rune Petersen, and Lucas Newhard giving Cougar's keeper two saves.

(RV) Grand View would finally get one to fall as Rune Petersen would get a cross from Samuel Londono for their first points on the board in the 24th minute. The Viking's second goal would come at nearly the 40th minute right after Jayce Berger checked in, and he would send one right down the middle for his first goal of the season. A corner kick by Payton Chapman would be perfectly lofted for Captain Ludvig Hordegard to head it into the goal for the 3-1 lead.

Both teams would see things get chippy in the second half. The Cougars would outshoot the Vikings 3-1, but Emiliano Laguna would go for 3 saves in the second half. The Vikings would control the tempo and would cruise to the victory over the No. 9 Cougars, 3-1.
