Offense Gets Rolling Early, Defense Dominates in No. 2 Vikings Shutout over Eagles

DES MOINES, IA - Grand View would host Central Methodist University in their homecoming weekend game. In a full effort from both sides of the ball, the No. 2 Vikings would dominate the Eagles, 65-0. 

The Vikings would get off to a hot start against the Eagles doing their most damage in the first half of play. Jackson Waring was 9-12 on completion and amounted to 157 total passing yards, and 4 touchdown passes to four different Vikings including Nick Danielson, Tyler Vitzthum, Damon Street, and Aisea Toki. Waring also had a touchdown of his own, to end the first quarter, the dual-threat would break free for the 53-yard rushing touchdown. Freshman quarterback Peyton Rottinghaus would start the second half of play for the Vikings, Rottinghaus would tally the first touchdown pass of his career to Jordan Kumm for 20 yards. 

Defensively the Vikings were all over the Eagles they held them to 6 first-downs, -31 rushing yards, and only 65 passing yards. The Eagles also were forced to punt 10 times during the duration of the game. Three different Vikings had four tackles, Nate Ewell, Collin Hogan, and Michael Acri. In the first quarter, Skylar James would have a blocked punt for Tate Stine-Smith to run it in for the Viking score. Daviere Jones would have a pick-6, and Casey Trudo would get the fumble recovery scoop and score. The Viking's defense would finish all scoring with a forced safety. 

KEY STATISTICS 

• The Vikings have not lost to a team in the South since 2018, after finishing 5-0 clearing through the Heart South Division. 

• The Vikings scored 35 total first-quarter points, followed by 21 in the second quarter. 

• The No. 2 Vikings generated 400 yards of offense, including 247 yards on the ground. 

• The Vikings currently rank 6th in the nation in scoring with 228 points total. 

• Waring had a rushing touchdown for 53 yards and a passing long of 68 yards for the TD.

The No. 2 Vikings have a bye this coming week. The team will return to the Duke on October 12th to take on Culver-Stockton College in a Thursday night football match-up.
