No. 2 Grand View Handles Culver-Stockton, 44-7

DES MOINES, Iowa – No. 2 Viking Football used a solid first half and a balanced offensive attack to roll to a 44-7 win over Culver-Stockton College on Thursday at Duke Williams Stadium.

The Vikings racked up 482 yards of total offense and featured an extremely balanced attack with 243 rushing yards and 239 passing yards. The Viking defense was stingy throughout the game, allowing just 63 total rushing yards, and amounting to 4 interceptions. 

Jackson Waring had another big game for the Vikings. The QB went 14-19 for 239 yards and five touchdowns to four different Vikings; Waring also recorded a 12-yard rushing touchdown. 

Tyler Vitzthum was the leading rusher for the Vikings posting a season-high 66 yards, Waring and Avery Gates trailed closely behind with 54 and 47 yards. 

Seth Juhl was the Vikings' leading receiver, catching two passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. Aisea Toki would receive two touchdown passes from Waring for 22 yards total. 

The Vikings' defense would hold the Wildcats scoreless until the final minute of the fourth quarter. Grand View would leave Culver empty-handed in two red-zone opportunities. Several different Vikings would be up for four total tackles, including Gabe Duffy, Aaron Brown, and Kiaeem Mosley. Mosley would also record two sacks for a loss of 12 yards and a pass breakup. Four Vikings would record interceptions - Jaylen Perkins, Nick Dredge, John Argo, and Jace Bedwell

KEY STATISTICS

  • The Vikings jumped out to an early 7-0 lead with a 52-yard touchdown pass. Gates picked up 16 rushing yards before Waring went for the long ball to Seth Juhl for the touchdown with 13:03 left in the first quarter. 
  • The Vikings' defense forced the three and out, followed by the safety, making the score 9-0. 
  • Waring would follow up the defensive efforts, going 5-6 completion on the next offensive drive, tacking on 50 passing yards in the possession, and finding Nick Danielson for the touchdown to further the Viking lead, 16-0. 
  • The Vikings' are currently ranked 1st in the nation in 4th down percentage at 80%, going 1-1 on the evening. 
  • Nathan Hamilton was 6-6 on PATs, ranking first in the country, 37-37.

The Vikings will return to the road heading south to take on the Graceland University Yellowjackets on October 21st. The two teams will kick off at 1:00 p.m.
