LAMONI, Iowa - Jackson Waring completed 19-of-25 passes for 292 yards as the Vikings (7-0, 2-0 Heart) took down the 52-13 Yellowjackets on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Waring totaled 292 passing yards with two passing touchdowns and a long of 69. The Vikings' most efficient receiver on the day would be Avery Gates, who had nine receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. Damon Street would follow behind with five receptions for 88 total yards. Gates would also lead the rushing charge, totaling 47 yards and another touchdown. Tyler Vitzthum would pace behind Gates for 41 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Grand View's defensive efforts would be led by Nate Ewell, who recorded eight tackles and one interception with a return for 22 yards. Jaylen Perkins Sr. would follow behind Ewell with five tackles and two of the three Vikings pass breakups. Collin Hogan would get his second special teams touchdown of the season after blocking Jackets punt for the scoop and score.
The Vikings held a 463-367 advantage in total yards over Graceland. The Vikings' defense recorded five tackles for loss, three pass breakups, and two interceptions.
KEY STATISTICS
• Tyler Vitzthum would start the scoring for the Vikings; he would get a nine-yard rushing TD to open things up, 7-0.
• Nathan Hamilton's field goal from 32 out would add three more to the Vikings' lead to close the first quarter.
• Special teams reliable, Collin Hogan would block the Jacket's punt after a pass break-up from Jaylen Perkins that led to the three and out. Hogan would recover the blocked punt for his second special teams TD of the season.
• Waring would march down the field, going 4-4 on his final connection with Damon Street before halftime for the Viking score. Kody Kruschwitz would run one in for the two-point conversion to equal things back to 24-0.
• Gates would receive Waring's long of 69 yards to open up the 3rd quarter, 38-7.
• The Vikings are the only team to hold the Yellowjackets to less than two touchdowns in Lamoni and on the road.
