No. 2 Vikings Blank Baker 24-0, Gives Woodley 50th Career Win

DES MOINES, Iowa – No. 2 Grand View Football hosted the (RV) Baker Wildcats today, September 16th. The Vikings would shut them out 24-0, granting Joe Woodley his 50th career win as head coach of the Vikings. 

The Vikings would score first for the third consecutive game. Quarterback Jackson Waring would find Avery Gates for the 14-yard pass and six points, and Nathan Hamilton would finish it off by securing the PAT. Hamilton would give the Vikings their second score of the contest early in the 2nd quarter with his 25-yard field goal attempt, making the score 10-0 in favor of No. 2. The scoring would dry out at the end of the 2nd quarter for the Vikings but would be finished with a rushing touchdown for Tyler Vitzthum, his first of the season. 

Jackson Waring was 15 of 25 on the day for completions and threw for a total of 167 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Vikings were rush-heavy today offensively, leaning on Avery Gates who recorded 80 total yards, followed behind by Tyler Vitzthum who added 65, and Waring with 48. Gates, Damon Street, and Tyrell Newman all added 48, 43, and 42 total receiving yards. 

Defensively the Vikings were led by Cade Sheedy and Tristin Waugh who both amounted to 8 total tackles. Waugh also recorded one sack for a loss of four yards, which would force the Wildcats into a turnover on downs. Dane Johnson would have a big game for the Vikings recording 5 tackles, a sack for a loss of 6-yards, and a fumble recovery. Nate Ewell recorded an interception in the red zone that would keep Baker off the board.
