Vikings Hold Serve at Home to Advance to FCS Quarterfinals

DES MOINES, IOWA – No. 2 Grand View football team dominates early in the second round of the FCS, 28-3, at Duke Williams Stadium today, November 25th, versus the Blue Hawks of Dickinson State. 

With the win, the Vikings clinched a spot in the FCS Quarterfinal game at the Duke in Des Moines, Iowa, next Saturday, Dec. 2 at noon. 

The Vikings were clicking on all cylinders in the first half of play on Saturday, scoring all 28 points in the first two quarters. The Vikings had 376 yards of total offense (202 pass, 174 rush) while holding the Blue Hawks to just one field goal, and 205 total offensive yards (125 pass, 80 rush). 

Quarterback Jackson Waring and wide receiver Damon Street connected for 106 yards on five receptions and two touchdowns. 

Through the air, Waring completed an efficient 17-of-24 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns, while running back Avery Gates led the ground attack with fifteen carries for 61 yards.

Grand View's defense came up big when needed, only allowing 12 first downs on 56 plays. Kiaeem Mosley, the unanimous defensive player of the game, recorded 2 sacks for a loss of 10 yards and 7 total tackles. 

KEY STATISTICS

  • Grand View struck first versus the Blue Hawks on their second drive; Waring added 11 rushing yards and found Damon Street for the first TD of the game, giving GVU momentum early - burning 4:08 of the game clock. 
  • The Vikings would get their second touchdown of the game on their following drive. Waring connected with Jordan Kumm for 21 yards after three plays for 38 yards. 
  • Kiaeem Mosley recorded a score-stopping sack in the second quarter, forcing the Blue Hawks to settle for a field goal, their only score of the contest. 
  • Waring threw for 202 total yards on 24 attempts, marking four passing touchdowns with a long of 53 yards. 
  • A last-second first-half finishing TD pass from Waring gave Aisea Toki his fifth of the season. 
  • Jaylen Perkins Sr. recorded his 12th pass break-up of the season. 
  • Nate Ewell forced a fumble in the fourth quarter and recovered it, stopping the Blue Hawks' final chance at scoring after being on the home 33.
