DES MOINES, IOWA – No. 2 Grand View football concluded their season in a tough battle Saturday afternoon to the College of Idaho Yotes. Grand View led most of the contest, but a spark from the Yotes' in the second half would propel them past Vikings, 31-17.
The Vikings marched down the field in their opening drive. Waring was 3-4 completion, but the Yotes halted the drive, forcing the Vikings to bring the kicking unit on. Hamilton would knock in three field goals, one in the first quarter from 34 yards and two in the second quarter from 37 yards and 24 yards to give Grand View their early 9-0 lead. The Vikings would be the only one to get on the board in the first 30 minutes.
The Yotes came to play right out of the gate in the 3rd quarter, a break-out 39-yard rush from the Yotes RB would set them up at the Grand View 32. College of Idaho QB Andy Peters followed it up with a 32-yard rushing touchdown, making their deficit to a possession, 9-7.
The College of Idaho kept their momentum spinning, scoring on their second drive of the 3rd quarter after forcing a 3-0 on the other side of the ball. The Yotes tacked on another touchdown on their second drive of the third quarter. Grand View, however, had the answer as Waring connected with Jordan Kumm for a 55-yard bomb that set the team up on the Idaho 25. The Vikings found the endzone for the first time in the afternoon after another Waring to Kumm connection on both the TD pass, and two-point conversion, sustaining their lead, 17-14.
C of I found the endzone immediately once again in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. Peters rushed for his 3rd and final touchdown of the game with just 14 minutes left to play as they led 21-17. A plethora of pass interference penalties on the Yotes gained the Vikings offense 40 yards bringing them to the Idaho 20-yard line. Waring's 13-yard rush set Grand View up at 1st and goal, but a game-securing interception by the Yotes spoiled the Vikings' pull-ahead score, finalizing the contest in favor of The College of Idaho.
Waring threw for 277 yards on 23-45, with a long of 55. Avery Gates led the rushing attack with 52 yards, and Jordan Kumm led the Vikings in receiving yards with 93 total after the 55-yard long reception in the 3rd quarter.
