Tyler Long

Tyler Long enters his second season as Associate Head Coach and third year overall with the Grand View University men’s basketball program, having spent his first season as an assistant coach. In his time with the Vikings, Long has been instrumental in the continued success of a program known for its uptempo offense, hard nosed defensive tenacity, player development, and consistent performance in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Last season, the Vikings recorded notable victories over #25 Graceland University and #2 Baker University, highlighting the team’s ability to compete with the nation’s best. During Long’s two year tenure with the Vikings he has recruited and developed 7 All Conference selections.

Long joined Grand View after spending the 2022–23 season at Fort Scott Community College in the Jayhawk Conference. While at FSCC, he recruited and coached four All-Conference selections and helped sign multiple players to NCAA Division I and II programs. He also helped guide the Greyhounds to a 19-win season, including double-digit conference wins for the first time in over a decade.

Prior to FSCC, Long served as an assistant coach at Emporia State University during the 2021–22 season. The Hornets finished 20–9 overall (their first 20-win season since 2006–07), including wins over two of the top five teams in the nation, and 15 MIAA victories—the most in school history. Long helped coach four all-conference selections, including All-American Tray Buchanan, who led the nation in scoring at 25.6 points per game.

Before Emporia State, Long spent five seasons at the University of Central Missouri as a student and graduate assistant, helping the Mules to three MIAA tournament appearances. During his tenure at Central Missouri, he coached 13 all-conference selections, including four academic All-Americans.

Long earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from the University of Central Missouri in 2019, with minors in Business Administration, Coaching, and Marketing, and completed his Master’s in Sports Management from Central Missouri in 2021.

Long lives in Johnston, IA with his wife Madison and their dog Moose
