David Groves became the third head coach of the Grand View Men’s soccer program on April 18, 2022.
During his time with the Vikings, Groves holds a 24-22-9 overall record. Throughout his tenure, the Vikings have defeated nationally ranked #9 Columbia (3-1), #12 Bellevue (6-2), and #22 Hastings (5-0). In conjunction with his role at Grand View, Groves serves on the NAIA National Tournament Committee and Heart of America Raters Committee. The Vikings compete in The Heart of America, a conference that has claimed the last four of six national titles and is widely regarded as the most competitive conference in the NAIA.
Before he arrived at Grand View, Groves coached at the NAIA level with Lyon College. During Groves' tenure, the Scots held a 48-23-4 overall and 28-7-2 in the American Midwest Conference. Lyon participated in the national tournament in two of his four years and the AMC tournament championship game in three of his four years, winning the tournament and the league title in 2021. Groves coached five All-Americans during his time with the Scots. Prior to Groves' arrival, the Scots had one All-American in program history. Groves was also named AMC Coach of the Year in 2021.
Before Lyon College, Groves led the Northeastern Junior College men’s soccer program to a 22-14-3 overall record in his two seasons with the Plainsmen. In 2017, he led the team to the regional championship game and was subsequently named Region Coach of the Year. The program's record before Groves’ arrival was 10-54-1.
Groves holds an 94-59-16 overall record as a collegiate head coach.
Before Northeastern Junior College, Coach Groves was an assistant coach at the NCAA Division 1 powerhouse, Western Michigan University. During his time at WMU, the Broncos held a 19-11-8 overall record.
Groves holds a Master of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Western Michigan University.
