Coach Merical has been an assistant coach with Grand View Softball for the past 15 years. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at Peru State College and a Master's Degree in Education from Viterbo University.
Coach Merical has also coached at the high school level for over 30 years, with coaching stints at Shenandoah, Dallas Center-Grimes, and Johnston. His teams have won three state championships during that time.
Coach Merical has been inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and was named the National Coach of the Year by the NHSACA.
