Alicia Spears enters her first season as pitching coach at Grand View. She comes to Grand View from Newman University in Wichita, Kansas, where she was the pitching coach for the Jets. While at Newman, she helped lead the Jets to its first conference tournament appearance and double their team wins. . She also helped produce Newman's first all-conference players. 

Prior to Newman University, Coach Spears was at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas, where she served as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator from 2008-2009. While at Fort Scott, she helped produce five all-conference players. Coach Spears also was the pitching coach at Northeast Texas Community College and Paris Junior College in Texas before moving to Kansas.

Coach Spears is originally from Mt. Vernon, Texas, where she was a four-year starter for Mt. Vernon High School and Coach Donnie Surratt, who is the winningest softball coach in Texas Class 3A history. Spears went on to play softball at Northeast Texas Community College where she was Second Team All-Conference pitcher her sophomore year in 2005. At NTCC, she led the Eagles to their first conference tournament appearance. Spears then transferred to Southern Arkansas University and helped lead the Muleriders to their tenth conference tournament appearance before suffering a career-ending knee injury.

Coach Spears graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce with a Bachelors of Science degree in History. She is married to Gerrett Spears, who is the Coordinator of Basketball Operations for the Drake women's basketball team.
