Matt Carlson begins his rst year with the Vikings Prior to Grand View, he served as the linebackers coach at East High School for three years, the defensive coordinator for two years at Lincoln High School, one year at Red Oak High School as defensive coordinator and two years at Wilber Clatonia High School as the special teams coordinator/linebackers/running backs coach. 

He graduated from Peru State College in 2007 where he was a four-year member of the football program Following graduation, he served as a graduate assistant for one spring as the defensive line coach. 

Carlson is in his third year as a physical education teacher at Central Campus High School in Des Moines This is his sixth year teaching physical education in the greater Des Moines community.
