Des Moines, IA - Grand View opened Heart of America Athletic Conference play with a sweep of Graceland, winning 25-12, 25-15, 25-15 at home in Des Moines. Grand View moves to 5-5 on the season.
Set 1
Grand View opened fast, scoring the first three points on kills from Brooklyn Roder and Ana Julia Goncalves. Graceland battled back within one, but the Vikings pulled away again, getting kills from Maria Eduarda dos Passos and Victoria Gasparini to build a comfortable cushion. Cecilia Campos then took over at the service line late in the set, ripping off three straight aces as part of a 4-0 run that pushed the lead to 11-22, and Maria Eduarda dos Passos closed out the set with back-to-back kills to win it, 25-12.
Set 2
The Vikings again jumped ahead early, scoring five of the first six points behind a run of Graceland errors and a Maria Eduarda dos Passos kill. Graceland answered with a run of its own to cut the deficit to two, but Grand View responded immediately, scoring five straight kills from Maria Eduarda dos Passos and Jocelyn Barrett among them to push the lead back out to seven. Ava Renner closed the set with a pair of service aces, sandwiched around a Victoria Bencardino kill, to win it 25-15.
Set 3
Grand View controlled the third set from the start, building leads behind kills from Victoria Gasparini and Maria Eduarda dos Passos and a Cecilia Campos service ace. A four-point Grand View run capped by a Luisa de Paula kill pushed the lead to eight, and the Vikings closed out the match on a Brooklyn Roder kill to complete the sweep, 25-15.
