BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Grand View opened its 2026 campaign on the road against Olivet Nazarene, but the Vikings couldn't find their footing against the host Tigers, falling in straight sets, 25-20, 25-23, 25-14.
Set 1
Grand View started slow, falling behind 11-5 as Olivet Nazarene's Natalie Wall served two aces during a strong stretch. A Vikings timeout didn't slow the Tigers, who pushed the lead to 15-7.
The Vikings fought back, using Tigers errors and blocks from
Brooklyn Roder to close within five at 22-17, then four at 24-20.
Maria Eduarda dos Passos added back-to-back kills late, but Olivet Nazarene held on, 25-20, to take the opening set.
Set 2
Set two was the closest of the night, with the score tied six times (13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19) as neither team could break away.
Jocelyn Barrett's ace tied it at 13, and an Ayla Dorsey attack error after a
Maria Eduarda dos Passos kill made it 14-14. Grand View kept matching Olivet Nazarene's pushes, including a block from
Luisa de Paula and Barrett that tied it at 18.
The Tigers pulled ahead late, sparking three-point run for a 22-19 lead. Grand View forced a timeout and closed within one at 24-23, but Olivet Nazarene finished the set 25-23 for a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3
Set three stayed tight early, tied at 1, 4 and 5, before Olivet Nazarene took control behind its middle attack. The Tigers sparked a three-point run for a 9-5 lead, and after a
Maria Eduarda dos Passos kill for Grand View, the Tigers took over on serve.
The Tigers run, capped by an ace, stretched the lead to 15-7 and prompted a Grand View timeout that didn't change momentum. Olivet Nazarene kept finding kills, and a late push from
Jocelyn Barrett's ace and a block from
Brooklyn Roder and dos Passos wasn't enough. Olivet Nazarene closed it out 25-14 to complete the sweep.
