DES MOINES, IOWA – Grand View returned to its home field with a statement performance on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Missouri Valley College behind dominant pitching and timely power at the plate. The Vikings controlled both games from start to finish, securing a pair of shutout victories.
GRAND VIEW 6, MISSOURI VALLEY 0
The Vikings wasted no time setting the tone in game one, erupting for five runs in the second inning to seize control early.
Reese Cooley got things started with a solo home run to left center, putting Grand View on the board. Moments later, Elle Nelsen delivered a big swing, launching a three-run home run to extend the lead to 4-0 after Chloe Kottlowski and Ceara Swanson reached base.
The inning continued as Grace Anderson came around to score on an RBI single from Caedence Risius, capping a five-run frame and giving the Vikings a commanding advantage.
Grand View added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Alexia Jarrett blasted a solo home run, pushing the lead to 6-0.
That was more than enough support for Macy Blomgren, who was dominant in the circle. Blomgren tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out 12 and not issuing a walk. She controlled the game from start to finish, keeping Missouri Valley off balance all afternoon.
The Vikings tallied 10 hits in the opener, with Nelsen and Anderson each recording two hits. Three different players—Cooley, Nelson, and Jarrett—accounted for the team's home runs in a powerful offensive showing.
