Grand View Forces Four Turnovers, Scores 28 in Second Quarter to Rout Graceland 52-20

LAMONI, IA - Grand View took control of its conference game at Graceland with a 28-point second quarter, rolling to a 52-20 win at Huntsman Field on Thursday night. The Vikings improve to 6-1 on the year and 3-0 in conference play behind big plays from the offense, defense and special teams.

The first quarter was a tight one. Graceland put together a 13-play, 69-yard drive to the Grand View 2-yard line, but Kellen Moore intercepted the Yellow Jackets in the end zone area and returned it 8 yards to the Grand View 10. The Vikings drove 62 yards in eight plays and Dominic Witt hit a 45-yard field goal to make it 3-0. Graceland answered with a 75-yard drive and a 4-yard touchdown pass to open the second quarter, taking a 7-3 lead.

That was the last time the Yellow Jackets led. Isaac Kracl capped a seven-play, 75-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run to put Grand View back in front 10-7. On the next Graceland series, Blake Tubbs blocked a punt and Jon Hatchitt scooped it up for a touchdown, making it 17-7. The Yellow Jackets then fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and Hatchitt recovered it at the Graceland 8. Two plays later, Dalten Van Pelt ran it in from 4 yards out to push the lead to 24-7. Bryant Williams finished a six-play, 64-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run, and the Vikings went into the half up 31-7.

Grand View kept its foot down in the third quarter. Jack Jepson led a six-play, 70-yard drive that ended with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Quez Hall, making it 38-7. On the next Viking possession, Jepson went to work again, finding Rex Woodley for a 7-yard score to cap an eight-play, 72-yard drive and make it 45-7. Peyton Goode was a key piece of the passing game, hauling in a 43-yard reception on his way to three catches for 58 yards. Graceland cut into the lead with a 20-yard touchdown pass late in the quarter to make it 45-14.

The Vikings defense came up big again in the fourth quarter. Harry Leinen intercepted the Yellow Jackets on the opening drive of the quarter, and Grand View's defense later pressured Graceland's quarterback with a pair of sacks from Jake Trenary and Coltin Myers, including one that lost 11 yards. Graceland found the end zone again with 1:55 to play on a 10-yard touchdown pass, but the extra point was blocked. Kenson Fuller answered right back with a 24-yard touchdown run on the second play of the drive, and Zayvion Ellington sealed the win with an interception with 1:15 left. Reserves Peyton Rottinghaus and Landon Vander Werff ran the offense as the clock ran out.
