Grand View Defeats Clarke and Moves Into the 4th Spot in Conference Standings

DES MOINES, IOWA – The Grand View men's basketball team defeated Clarke 76-64 on Wednesday night, controlling the game from start to finish to improve to 14-7 overall and 9-5 in conference play.

Grand View got off to a fast start as Lukas Helms stole the ball and finished with a fast-break dunk to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead. Daviyon Gaston added a jumper assisted by Joe Knutson to push the lead to 4-2, and Gaston scored again assisted by Patrick Worrell to extend it to 6-2. Riley Edwards hit a three-pointer to give Grand View a 9-5 advantage, and Jaxson Young knocked down a three-pointer assisted by Helms to make it 12-5. Gaston added another three-pointer assisted by Helms to extend the lead to 15-7. Young scored to push it to 22-11, and Edwards hit another three-pointer assisted by Gaston to make it 25-14. Young scored and added a free throw to give the Vikings a 27-14 lead. O'Shawn Jones-Winslow added a layup to push the advantage to 29-17, and Gaston hit a three-pointer assisted by Jones-Winslow to make it 34-21. Luke Hart scored to give Grand View a 36-25 lead, and Hart added another layup to push it to 38-29 at halftime.

Young scored assisted by Helms to open the second half and extend the lead to 40-29. Worrell hit a three-pointer assisted by Helms to push the lead to 43-31, and Young scored assisted by Worrell to make it 45-31. Worrell added a layup to extend Grand View's largest lead to 47-31. Worrell knocked down a three-pointer assisted by Gaston to push the lead to 50-39. Helms scored to make it 52-42, and Young scored assisted by Worrell to push it to 54-44. Young scored on a fast-break layup assisted by Gaston to extend the lead to 56-46. Hart added a jumper to push it to 58-49, and Gaston scored to extend the lead to 60-51. Helms converted a free throw to make it 61-54, and Helms added a layup and a free throw to push the lead to 64-56. Gaston scored to make it 66-59, and Worrell hit two free throws to extend it to 68-59. Gaston added a layup and Young hit a free throw to push the lead to 72-61. Gaston scored to make it 72-62, and Helms hit a three-pointer in the final seconds to seal the 76-64 victory.
