KEARNEY, NEBRASKA - In a highly anticipated showdown between national champions, the No. 1 NAIA Grand View Vikings defeated No. 2 NCAA Division II Nebraska-Kearney 21-13 in a thrilling dual that lived up to the hype. The Vikings, the defending NAIA National Champions, took down the returning Division II National Champions with a series of gutsy performances in close matches.
Elijah Cater (125) set the tone early, grinding out a sudden victory win over Caleb Coyle, 4-1, in overtime. Gabe Gonzales (133) followed with an 11-6 decision over Zachary Ourada to give Grand View an early 6-0 lead.
After dropping back-to-back matches at 141 and 149 pounds, the Vikings responded with five consecutive victories to seize control of the dual.
Bryce Boumans (157) sparked the run with a narrow 4-3 decision over Cael Robb. Cam Robinson (165) continued the momentum with a 7-5 victory against Trenton Munoz, and Kristopher Ketchum (174) added a hard-fought 5-3 decision over Otgonbayar Batsuuri.
Thomas Even (184) delivered perhaps the most thrilling match of the night, edging Kaden Hart 7-6 in a nail-biter. Garavous Kouekabakilaho (197) capped the winning streak with a defensive 2-0 decision over Jackson Kinsella, clinching the dual victory for the Vikings.
The win showcased Grand View's championship mettle, as the Vikings won six matches decided by four points or fewer against one of the nation's premier programs.
