CHICKASHA, OKLAHOMA – Grand View played their second game of the opening round on Tuesday against the 1-seed and host, University of Science and Arts (Okla.). Grand View put a stop to a 17 game winning streak for the Drovers and put themselves into the Opening Round Final!
VIKINGS 3, DROVERS 1
Grand View started at the plate in this bright, noon o'clock game. The wind blowing from right to left field. Olivia Harmon proved to be our leadoff again, with a triple to start the game! She found a gap in left center and the Vikings had an early runner in scoring position. Olivia Kyes did her job perfectly as she lifted a high fly ball to center field for an RBI sacrifice fly. The rest of the inning fuzzed out but a 1-0 lead early in the game for your Vikings.
Madi Huisman started for GV again in this one and what a great first inning she had. Three straight outs including a strikeout to end close the bottom half. The Drovers found some momentum in the second inning though and earned a run early. With runners on second and third and no outs, Huisman showed her poise with three outs and held the runners put. Great fielding display with their backs against the wall for the Vikings.
Huisman followed this up with a spectacular third inning, striking out the side which included the Drovers 2, 3, and 4 hitters.
Samantha Holbert found a two out base hit in the top of the fourth and stole second and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Ella Taber with a chance to take the lead and a great at-bat for number 10. She pushed the count to full and delivered on a rope that hit the middle of the fence, for a two out RBI double!
Huisman with a great fourth and fifth innings work. The field had plenty of well-grounded put outs and Huisman brought her strikeout count to seven!
Harmon led off the top of the sixth inning for the Vikings and again did her job, getting on with a walk but was thrown out trying to steal second and the inning froze for GV.
After an initial out for Huisman, she gave up a walk and the Vikings decided to go to the bullpen. Huisman with another great outing that finished with only four hits and one run given up. She pitched five and a third and had seven Ks!
Addison Halstead came in and closed the inning with two fly balls that Taber got under.
Taber walked up to bat the following inning with one out and just needed one pitch to pad the lead. Ella striped a solo home run to give Halstead a little more cushion entering the bottom of the seventh.
Halstead put a fantastic save together and the Vikings surpassed the one-seeded Drovers, 3-1.
