DAVENPORT, FLORIDA – The Vikings ended their Florida trip on Monday against Valley City State. The Vikings came out on top with a couple big innings in the later stages of the game. GVU put on another show at the plate with 14 total runs and a 3-2 record coming back home.
MONDAY
GV had Kaleb Krier on the rubber to start the game and Valley City State had his number in the first with two runs. Krier settled in well after this, going three more innings allowing zero runs and five total strikeouts. The Vikings found an early run of their own in the first as lead off Brock Johnson was brought in on a single from Erik Broekemeier. GV took the lead in the third with three more RBIs on a bases loaded double from Broekemeier. The game stood still at 4-2 until the Vikings broke it open in the top of the sixth. Heinen's RBI single started the rally as Grand View batter's reached base in six straight AB's and two pitching changes in the process. Patrick Bergkamp, Dane Schwirtz, and Broekemeier accounted for the RBI knocks. Grand View added another three runs in the top of the seventh to put no questions on the outcome of this one. Jason Moist and Evan Borst were the relievers and executed things to plan. Both had 2 strikeouts each and held VCSU off the board. Grand View won 14-2 in this one.

Grand View heads over to Kansas next to spend a series against Benedictine College. This will be Saturday and Sunday, March 8th – 9th. Games will be played at 12 PM & 2 PM each day.
