DES MOINES, IOWA Grand View took the field against Waldorf Wednesday in a mid-week clash. GV with big innings late in the game built their lead and earned themselves another win on the season. Grand View held Waldorf to six scoreless innings and this one ended 14-4 through eight innings.
The Vikings chipped away early with a run in each of the first three innings. Brock Johnson found his way around the bases in the first and third inning on unearned runs, and a solo home run from Hank Himrich in the second. Meanwhile, Waldorf had three of their own, but they all came in the top of the second. Christens was on the mound the first three innings and had trouble finding the strike zone with three walks in the third. Christens bounced back in the third, only facing three batters. Jason Moist came in as relief in the fourth and pitched four scoreless innings on only 34 pitches, and three strikeouts. Drew Scherbenske closed for the Vikings and let up just one run. Grand View got some help on offense in the sixth with a 2-run homer from Evan Borst, and a pair of RBI singles from Johnson and Erik Broekemeier in the bottom of the seventh. The Vikings all had the bats working in the eighth which included a two run RBI from Weston Barber who pinch-hit. Thomas Maathuis also brought in a run on his pinch-hit AB. More unearned runs came from patience at the plate for GV and rallied up a 14-4 lead to end the game.

The Vikings will host Baker University this coming Sunday and Monday at Lou Yacinich Stadium in a 4-game series. Games will start at 1 PM both days.
