FROSTPROOF, FLORIDA – The Vikings continued their Florida tour with a doubleheader against Webber International University. After a narrow 2-0 loss in the first game, they bounced back decisively, securing a 7-3 victory in the second. In the opener, both teams showcased strong pitching and defense, with Webber International edging out the win. The second game saw Grand View's offense come alive, leading to a commanding win.
GAME 1 | WEBBER INTERNATIONAL 2, GRAND VIEW 0
In the first game of the day, Webber International struck early, capitalizing on Grand View's lone throwing error to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Vikings struggled at the plate, and the Warriors tacked on another run in the third with an RBI single. Grand View's offense finally saw a spark in the fourth when
Olivia Harmon connected for the team's first hit, but she was left stranded. Despite the Vikings' defense shutting Webber International down the rest of the way, they couldn't generate any scoring offense and fell 2-0.
Both teams had nearly identical offensive numbers, with Webber International tallying six hits to Grand View's five. However, eight strikeouts proved costly for the Vikings.
Madi Huisman took the loss despite a strong outing, allowing just two runs over six innings. She struck out four, forced seven flyouts and eight groundouts, and issued only one walk on 80 pitches—25 fewer than Webber International's starter.
GAME 2 | GRAND VIEW 7, WEBBER INTERNATIONAL 3
Grand View wasted no time getting on the board in game two, as
Nevaeh Randall launched a solo home run to center in the first inning. Cooley followed with a single, and Holbert added another hit, putting immediate pressure on Webber International's defense. A fielding error at first allowed Reece Cooley to score, giving the Vikings a quick 2-0 lead. The Warriors responded in the bottom half, cutting the deficit with a two-out RBI triple, then tied the game in the second by capitalizing on an error and a passed ball.
But Grand View seized full control in the third. Randall led off with a double and stole third, setting up Meister's RBI single to put the Vikings back in front. Meister then stole two bases and scored on a throwing error before
Kylie Merical's fielder's choice and
Gabriella Taber's RBI double extended the lead to 6-2. A wild pitch brought Taber home, capping a five-run inning.
From there, Grand View's pitching staff took over.
Madeline Waldorf started the game strong, striking out five over three innings while allowing just one earned run.
Molly Breeding took the ball in the fourth and shut down the Warriors, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Addison Halstead closed it out, surrendering a run in the seventh after a double from the Warriors but ending the game with a flyout.
Despite Webber International putting runners on throughout the game, the Vikings' pitching staff held firm, stranding 11 baserunners. Timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and solid pitching powered Grand View to the 7-3 victory, splitting the doubleheader.
