DAVENPORT, FLORIDA – Grand View Baseball started their stint in Florida with a midday game against Cornerstone University. The Vikings had their bats working early and often in the 2025 season opener, racking up 16 runs and a 1-0 start.
WEDNESDAY
GVU though eager, showed poise at the plate early with multiple walks, including a bases load walk earned by Hank Himrich to give the Vikings the first run of the game. Grand View didn't lose the lead from there, earning seven runs in the first three innings of play. This included a high fly ball by Erik Broekemeier over the center field fence, bringing in two runs. Meanwhile, Kaleb Krier brought his stuff to the mound. Krier fired five straight innings without a hit and finished with six innings pitched and eight strikeouts cumulated. No runs given up for Krier and a win in his first start. The bottom of the 6th had Himrich joining in on the fun with a homer of his own, bringing in Evan Borst along the way, who doubled the prior at-bat. GV out to 10-0 but Cornerstone didn't go away without some fight. They rattled off four runs in the 7th and another three in the 8th. Grand View's bats responded with the most productive inning of the game in the bottom of the 8th. The Vikings put up five runs of their own with four hits and two others reaching base with HBP. This put things out of reach as Grand View finished with 13 hits and 16 runs in a 16-7 victory.
