Grand View Edged in Close Contest by Dakota Wesleyan, 89-84

Box Score MITCHELL, SOUTH DAKOTA – The Vikings fell 89-84 on the road against Dakota Wesleyan University in a tightly contested match-up. Grand View led early with strong inside play and sharp shooting, but Dakota Wesleyan battled back in the second half to secure the win.

Grand View jumped out quickly, with layups from Jaxson Young and Lukas Helms. After five minutes, the contest was tied 7-7, but the Vikings went on a 10-2 run, with buckets from Rodell Davis Jr, Daviyon Gaston, and Lukas Helms giving Grand View a 17-9 advantage midway through the first half. Rodell Davis Jr added a pair of three-pointers, helping the Vikings maintain momentum heading into the final minutes of the half. Dakota Wesleyan gradually chipped away at the lead, and the Vikings' early edge was erased by halftime as the Tigers went on a 7-0 run, entering the break tied at 34-34.

The second half remained tightly contested, with both teams trading baskets. After the Tigers pulled ahead to a seven-point lead at 48-41, the Vikings clawed back with key baskets, including three-pointers from Rodell Davis Jr and James Ogrodink. After taking a 60-56 lead, Dakota Wesleyan responded with back-to-back-to-back threes to regain a five-point advantage with 9:00 remaining. Grand View stayed within striking distance, tying the game at 77-77, but with under a minute remaining, the Vikings trailed by four points. Daviyon Gaston hit a three-pointer to bring Grand View within three, but Dakota Wesleyan made free throws in the final seconds to close out the game, 89-84.
