MARSHALL, MISSOURI – Grand View University's men's basketball team kicked off the new year with a challenging road game against Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri. The home team's scorching shooting in the first half put Grand View in an early deficit, forcing them to play catch-up for the remainder of the game. Despite a spirited comeback effort in the second half, the visiting Vikings couldn't overcome the gap, ultimately falling 88-75.
Freshman standout
Jackson Green led the charge for Grand View in their first game of 2025, delivering an impressive 18 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Complementing his efforts was
Jaxson Young, who showcased his efficiency in the paint with 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting while adding six assists.
The Vikings displayed disciplined ball control, committing just eight turnovers and capitalizing on Missouri Valley's 11 turnovers for 14 points. However, Missouri Valley's red-hot shooting from beyond the arc in the first half proved decisive. The home team connected on 7-of-12 three-point attempts, including a key shot late in the half that extended their lead to double digits and propelled them to a commanding 50-38 halftime advantage.
Grand View opened the second half with back-to-back scoring possessions, with contributions from Young and
Ayden Foster sparking some momentum. However, a 10-2 run by Missouri Valley pushed the deficit to 17 points, the largest of the game. Despite the setback, Grand View regrouped and cut the lead to single digits by the second media timeout. James Porter provided a series of timely buckets to keep Grand View out of reach, but Missouri Valley's consistent scoring ultimately secured their 88-75 victory to start the new year.
