DES MOINES, IOWA – Top ranked Grand View took on No. 3 ranked NCAA division II team in the country, Nebraska-Kearney. The Vikings wrestled tough all night, earning bonus points in four of their six wins. This was a key factor to extending the lead and earning the win. The final score was 27-12 with Grand View defeating a top tier opponent. This makes their dual record 3-1 verses the Lopers, over the past four seasons.
DUAL SUMMARY
The night started at 125 pounds as No. 1 Aden Reeves wrestled Adonis Lattimore. Reeves went to work early on and found a pin towards the end of the first period. This started the Vikings off with six points on the board. At 133 pounds, No. 2 Jackson Cockrell wrestled No. 15 Hector Serratos to an overtime war but coming up just short. No. 1 Carson Taylor controlled his match at 141 pounds. CT wrestled No. 10 Joseph Airola to a 1-0 match but was in on multiple shots throughout the match. At 149 pounds, another pin called as No. 3 Darnai Heard stuck Brady Collins in the second period. A bunch of flurries in that match and Heard continued to wrestle in these positions, landing a fall. Big brother No. 1 E'lan Heard was up next to compete at 157, with a victory over No. 10 Cael Robb. The score ended 11-8 with tons of points being put up. A major decision came at 165 pounds, as No. 3 Cam Robinson kept the foot on the gas against Garrett Willuweit. Robinson found a couple scores in the third to earn a bonus point win for the Vikings. Grand View dropped the next two matches as No. 1 Alex Reynolds lost to Jacobi Deal in a sudden death nail-biter, and Jameel Coles wrestling a tough match against No. 4 ranked Jacari Deal with a score of 7-2. No. 1 Garavous Kouekabakilaho scored in bunches at 197, coming up with the lone tech fall of the night against Jacob Awiszus. GK turned on the burners earning multiple takedowns to seal a 19-4 win. To end the night was the No. 1 wrestlers in their respected divisions as Greg Hagan wrestled Crew Howard. Hagan with wonderful hand fighting and grit throughout the match but came up just short losing by a late takedown. Grand View ends the night on top 27-12 and wins 6 of 10 matches in a competitive dual.
