Vikings Move Past Owls 56-6, Wins Sixth Straight Season Opener

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA — The Vikings continued their dominant start to the season, securing a 54-6 victory over the William Woods Owls at Valley Stadium. This win marks Grand View's sixth consecutive season opener victory and extends their impressive regular-season winning streak to 51 games - 50 straight for head coach Joe Woodley. The matchup also marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams, with Grand View taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Grand View's offense was in full control, amassing 206 passing yards and 275 rushing yards while limiting the Owls to 110 total yards and an astonishing -40 rushing yards.

The Vikings set the tone early on their opening drive, as quarterback Jackson Waring connected with wide receiver Jordan Kumm in the back of the end zone after escaping a collapsing pocket, putting Grand View on the board. Defensive end Jackson Filer quickly made his presence felt, delivering back-to-back sacks on the Owls' first possession, leading to a safety and a 9-0 lead for the Vikings.

Following a 44-yard field goal by Cory Wood, William Woods scored its first touchdown in program history on a 21-yard pass. However, Waring quickly responded, rushing into the end zone to extend Grand View's lead. Valley High alum Zane Johnson then recorded his first career touchdown on a 29-yard reception, kicking off a scoring barrage for the Vikings.

In the third quarter, sophomore John Argo electrified the crowd with a pick-six, returning the interception 34 yards to make it 33-6. Houston native Triston Williams followed with his first career touchdown on an 18-yard pass, further extending the lead. Running backs Dalten Van Pelt and Cale Culver each found the end zone in the final quarter, sealing the 54-6 victory.
