Vikings Season Concludes in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round

SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – In an elimination round game, the Vikings centered off against the Bruins of Bellevue University. The Bruins previously fell to the four-seed Saint Xavier University in a tight 4-3 game. The Vikings, although matching the Bruins six hits, would be held without a run, resulting in a season-ending 2-0 loss.

Both teams were cautious as the game kicked off, resulting in a slow start. By the end of the 1st inning, the score was tied at one hit each. In the 2nd inning, Jessica Walljasper showcased her pitching skills, striking out two Bellevue players and preventing them from getting a hit. Olivia Harmon's center-field single injected some energy into the Vikings, but they couldn't convert it into a run, leading to another scoreless inning.

With the bases loaded, the Bruins would get on the board first after back-to-back walks, but a pop-up to Kylie Merical would end the inning, stranding three for Bellevue and only seeing the Vikings down one run as they reached the top of the 4th. The 7th would see BU's second run of the game and retire Walljasper for the day; Lani Gannon could limit damage and give the Vikings a chance to get back into the game as they headed into the bottom.

GVU would show life in the 7th inning, capitalizing on Bruin errors and putting runners on, but on Grand View's final at-bat of the evening, they would see a line out to third that would result in an easy out at home to close out the game.
