Vikings Sweep Missouri Valley in Home Series

DES MOINES, IOWA — Grand View has its first home opener against Missouri Valley College at Lou Yachinich Stadium after last week's games were moved due to weather. The Vikings are coming off a walk-off win against the Yellowjackets of Graceland University, using the thrilling win momentum to their advantage in a series sweep over Missouri Valley College. Since joining the Heart of America Conference, the Vikings are 11-5 in the all-time series against Missouri Valley.

GAME 1:
Grand View plates the first run of the game with a solo shot to left by Nolan Drill, putting the Vikings up 1-0. Moving to the bottom of the third, Carson Wadel doubled to score one, and Erik Broekemeier singled, each picking up an RBI to go up 3-0. Missouri Valley would tie the game at 3 in the top of the 4th. Grand View would retake the lead in the 5th inning with a grand slam from Drill (second home run) to give the Vikings a lead in the late innings. Drew Conn would pick up the win, going 5.1 innings, giving up five hits, nine strikeouts, and three runs. Jacob Wolver will be given the save his Second of the season.

GAME 2:
The Vikings bats would start hot as Connor Canny put Grand View on the board in the bottom of the second with a home run to left field. The Vikings would add to their lead with three more runs in the bottom of the third inning, credit to a pair of home runs by Hank Himrich and Brock Rinehart. Grand View would end with nine runs, 11 hits, and five walks in game 2. Jason Moist would be awarded the win for the Vikings, giving up five hits and two runs (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking none.

GAME 3:
Ryan Roby would give up a run in the first inning, which would be all the Missouri Valley would score in game 3 of the series. Roby would finish his day going six innings, giving up two hits, one run (unearned), no walks, and 7 Strikeouts.  Broekemeier and Jonson were a big help in the Viking offense as they each collected two hits apiece, combining for all the Viking runs. Jacob Wolver would come in to finish the game, walking one to end the game for Grand View.

GAME 4:
With a chance to sweep the series, both Grand View and Missouri Valley had their offenses going, but the Vikings would end up on top 13-7. After an 8-run inning in the 4th, they would tally 4 extra-base hits and a single to take the lead. Broekemeier and Wadel would each collect three hits, bringing in 6 combined RBIs to assist the Vikings in the Victory.
